UFI goes virtual for 87th Congress
By Joyce DiMascio
The Global Association for the Exhibition Industry (UFI) has delivered its first-ever virtual Congress with 640 participants from 51 countries. The major focus was how the industry can rebound from the global pandemic which has seen revenues decline by 70 per cent compared to 2019.
The event was streamed from Hong Kong, London, Bogota and Dubai with 16 hours of live content. The 87th Congress was due to be held in Oman but was adapted virtually due to travel restrictions.
The biggest event organisers in the world, venues and suppliers to the industry heard of the reopening of some markets including China and Dubai under strict and effective safety protocols. CEO Kai Hattendorf said going virtual had given UFI the biggest audience ever for the congress.
Stay tuned for an interview with the new UFI President, Anbu Varathan and UFI CEO, Kai Hattendorf.
