Langham veteran promoted to COO
 
Langham Hospitality Group has announced the appointment of Bob van den Oord as chief operating officer (COO) to support the company’s hotel operations over four continents.
 
van den Oord brings over two decades of experience to his new role based at the corporate office in Hong Kong. He was most recently managing director at The Langham, London as well as Regional Vice President, operations (Europe, Middle East and the United States).
 
On his promotion, van den Oord said: “As we look toward long-term recovery, future growth and opportunity for our group and industry during these challenging times, I feel incredibly fortunate to work with outstanding colleagues who are dedicated and passionate in their service delivery and care for our guests and each other.”

More than 200 South Australian event planners tuned in to an online health forum put on by Events SA last week had the Zoom meeting cut short when pornographic images and unusual noises disrupted the presentation 15 minutes in.
 
micenet believes Deputy Chief Public Health Officer, Dr Chris Lease, was discussing the latest health information on COVID-19 when the unwanted images and sounds were uploaded to the platform.
 
Sources say Events SA cut the connection when it was realised they could not stop the unwanted imagery or sounds. Events SA reportedly distributed the Zoom link and password widely prior to the event.
 
There have been numerous cases of Zoom meetings being hacked or Zoombombed.
 
Event SA is looking at a follow-up online meeting with greater security measures.

When the global pandemic scuttled plans for Food&HotelAsia’s split events set to take off this year, organiser Informa Markets had to fill the void.
 
Together with Saladplate, an international, wholesale online marketplace serving the food and hospitality sectors, they launched Food & Hotel Digital Week. Instalments in May and July drew an appreciative and growing regional and global audience.
