Asia looks HOT with mega-Destination Asia turnout
If the number of attendees at Destination Asia’s turnout in Sydney yesterday is anything to go by, then Asian destinations are going to see a bumper 2019 courtesy of the Australian corporate meetings and incentive travel sector.
It was wall-to-wall business event planners from both corporate and agencies at Chii Town in Surry Hills where Destination Asia Australia representative Nicole Naylor introduced global director of sales, Katie Buxton, and new Singapore MD, Matt Smith, who once worked at 212f Down Under.
Ms Naylor said in 2018 Destination Asia managed more than 350,000 visitors in Asia, with Australia the company’s second largest source market.

Industry big name joins OzHarvest CookOff (and needs your help)
Managing director of AV1 and event tech big shot Keith Wootton will pull on his plastic gloves and take part in OzHarvest’s flagship fundraiser CEO CookOff on March 25, 2019, at Sydney’s Royal Hall of Industries.
Keith will be cooking alongside some of Australia’s most talented chefs, such as Matt Moran and Colin Fassnidge, to deliver gourmet dinners to 1400 guests from Sydney’s most vulnerable communities.
On his decision to take part, Keith said “You'll often see the AV1 team out in the local area collecting plastic rubbish, producing fundraising events, or lending support to local community centres.
“They’ve inspired me to roll up my sleeves, don a chef's hat, and raise some much-needed funds to fill all those hungry tummies out there.”
Good on you, Keith. You’ve certainly warmed the cockles of our little hearts this Valentine’s Day. So much so that we’ve donated $250 towards your $10,000 fundraising goal, and encourage others to do the same. To contribute, visit https://w w w. ceocookoff. com. au/fundraisers/keithwootton.

Our biggest hotel boom since the Sydney Olympics
As reported by ABC News earlier this week, Australia’s hotel sector is in the middle of its most rapid growth phase in almost two decades.
The boom began three years ago, with more than 40 new hotels being added to our offering in the intervening years. An additional 272 hotels are predicted to come online by 2025.
The boom has been attributed to a growth in tourism, resulting partly from the open skies agreement with China and last year’s air service agreement with India.
In addition to the property expansion, the types of hotels being built has drastically changed. Properties with a focus on place, design and lifestyle are usurping the traditional ‘cookie-cutter’ offerings of the past.
This upturn in development is obviously great news for the MICE sector. Keep ‘em coming.
