Business event writer passes away
micenet staff were sad to learn of the news that Louis Allen passed away on Sunday evening (June 17) at his home in Vietnam.
Louis was a fixture in the business event sector for many years in Australia before taking on the role of editor of Executive PA magazine and later moving to Vietnam to live and work.
At industry trade shows and educationals he could always be found with a camera in his hand and a trilby hat on his head.
RIP Louis. Our deepest condolences to his partner and family.
No prize for being first in BridgeClimb contract
After pioneering the concept and then running it for the past 20 years, BridgeClimb learnt last week it had been unsuccessful in its bid to extend its contract for another two decades.
Twelve companies bid for the rights to manage Sydney Harbour Bridge climbs including the company awarded the contract, Katoomba-based Hammons Holdings, which runs Scenic World in the Blue Mountains.
Hammons Holdings CEO, David Hammon, said expanding access and affordability was a key priority in its 20-year vision for the bridge.
Mr Hammon said Hammons would be drawing on more than 70 years of successful operations at Scenic World to inject new life into the bridge experience for local, interstate and international visitors.

Pullman Palm Cove Sea Temple Resort and Spa's upcoming soft refurb
The Pullman Palm Cove Sea Temple Resort and Spa is one of Far North Queensland's favourite destination for events, conferences and getaways. Opened just over a decade ago, the resort will undergo a soft refurbishment of its guest rooms in the next quarter.
Taking inspiration from the ocean, and honouring the resort’s tropical Asian architecture, the venue will embody the characteristics of a five star resort with an authentic ambiance using natural and textured materials. The design will encompass tropically designed furniture with a masculine mahogany appeal, fabrics in neutral colours of stone and black and rich earthy tones of ochre rust. For authenticity, artwork has an Indigenous influence with a colour palette that changes with each room.

COMPETITION TIME! is your pet the cutest in the events industry?
That’s right, micenet is running a competition to find the cutest pet belonging to someone working in the Australian business events industry.
Now we know that beauty – and cuteness - is said to be in the eye of the beholder, which is why we also want you to tell us in 25 words or less why your little pal should be the worthy winner.
If you have a cat, dog, snake, wombat, or any other critter that lives with you then send a photo of them and one of yourself to brad@btp.net.au for your chance to win a professional photoshoot with Oneill Photographics in their studio and, for the runner up, a one night stay at Pier One Sydney for you, your pet (if they’re under 20kg) and your partner.
And we’re also offering a readers' prize for readers who will be invited to match the pet with the owner of our Top 10 Finalists.
Entries close July 4, 2018. Click here for full conditions and further details.

Is your hotel catering to millennials?
About 70 per cent of young Australians prefer to communicate via written message than by a phone call. Why, then, do most accommodation businesses rely on traditional phone calls for room service?
The NoVacancy Accommodation Business Expo, set to take place between July 17 and 18 at ICC Sydney, will explore the various ways accommodation businesses can meet the expectations of millennial customers. Hospitality apps and artificial intelligence for in-room services are just the start of it. The event will cover all bases on remaining agile in the accommodation sector, including housekeeping, digital marketing, finances and interior design.
