micenet staff were sad to learn of the news that Louis Allen passed away on Sunday evening (June 17) at his home in Vietnam.
 
Louis was a fixture in the business event sector for many years in Australia before taking on the role of editor of Executive PA magazine and later moving to Vietnam to live and work.
 
At industry trade shows and educationals he could always be found with a camera in his hand and a trilby hat on his head.
RIP Louis. Our deepest condolences to his partner and family.
No prize for being first in BridgeClimb contract
 
After pioneering the concept and then running it for the past 20 years, BridgeClimb learnt last week it had been unsuccessful in its bid to extend its contract for another two decades.
 
Twelve companies bid for the rights to manage Sydney Harbour Bridge climbs including the company awarded the contract, Katoomba-based Hammons Holdings, which runs Scenic World in the Blue Mountains.
 
Hammons Holdings CEO, David Hammon, said expanding access and affordability was a key priority in its 20-year vision for the bridge.
 
Mr Hammon said Hammons would be drawing on more than 70 years of successful operations at Scenic World to inject new life into the bridge experience for local, interstate and international visitors.

Pullman Palm Cove Sea Temple Resort and Spa's upcoming soft refurb
 
The Pullman Palm Cove Sea Temple Resort and Spa is one of Far North Queensland's favourite destination for events, conferences and getaways. Opened just over a decade ago, the resort will undergo a soft refurbishment of its guest rooms in the next quarter.
 
Taking inspiration from the ocean, and honouring the resort’s tropical Asian architecture, the venue will embody the characteristics of a five star resort with an authentic ambiance using natural and textured materials. The design will encompass tropically designed furniture with a masculine mahogany appeal, fabrics in neutral colours of stone and black and rich earthy tones of ochre rust. For authenticity, artwork has an Indigenous influence with a colour palette that changes with each room.

Darwin Convention Centre celebrates double digits
 
June 18 marked two decades in the business for Darwin Convention Centre, a venue responsible for hosting hundreds of international, national and regional conferences a year and injecting millions of dollars into the local economy.
 
Since its 2008 opening, over 680,000 people have attended events at the venue, including the Dalai Lama and Chinese president Xi Jinping, and more than $350 million in delegate spend has been generated. Flow on benefits have included increased business for local hotels, restaurants and tourism operators.
 
Darwin Convention Centre general manager Janet Hamilton said “All of the employees who have worked at the centre over the last ten years have worked very hard to create a world-class convention centre and to maintain the highest standards.”
