Is MCEC and HotelsCombined partnership a concern for PCOs?

Is the announcement that the MCEC has partnered with hotel price comparison platform HotelsCombined.com.au a concern for professional conference organisers or simply what may become the "new normal"?

The partnership will reportedly allow MCEC customers to instantly search and book the best hotel deals available. Historically, PCOs have relied on commission from hotels for delegates attending conferences they organise to cover event planning costs.

Unconventional Uluru Showcas
Event planners take off to Uluru

Seventeen corporate and association representatives, along with specialist event planners, recently participated in the NT Convention Bureau's inaugural Unconventional Uluru Showcase initiative.

As a first-time visitor to Uluru, Tricia Mikolai, managing director of BI Worldwide, Oceania was amazed by the colours of Central Australia and the sheer size of the natural attractions.

"The scale of Uluru was a surprise for me – in fact, almost everything we've done during the famil has been a surprise. I thought it would be just desert and monotone everywhere, so the colourful greenery, blue skies and red soil were very unexpected."
