It’s not official until there are fireworks

Eight years in the making, the $397 million redevelopment of the Adelaide Convention Centre was officially opened with a bang on Wednesday evening courtesy of riverbank fireworks. There was a particular emphasis on the technical capabilities of the all-new centre with guests sitting in the new 300-seat pods until at the touch of a button the seating was rotated 180 degrees and guests found themselves facing the main plenary.

Here was a cool holographic presentation from SA Premier Jay Weatherill until the real Jay appeared beside his hologram in a fun twist.

It was a fun night and micenet hears on the grapevine that the out-of-town invited attendees were the last to leave the party! Full details in the next edition of micenet. Image courtesy of ACC.
And now the astronauts can come

The completion of the Adelaide Convention Centre’s means that the 68th International Astronautical Society Congress is full steam ahead this month.

More than 3500 delegates are expected to attend the event – the first in the new East Building. Among the high-profile attendees will be tech billionaire Elon Musk.

Melbourne trumps itself, and we don’t mean Donald

Fresh from announcing it had secured its largest conference on record with the Lions Clubs International Convention 2024 and an anticipated 13,000 delegates, Melbourne has trumped itself, today confirming it had secured the World Ophthalmology Congress® 2022 (WOC2022) which will see up to 14,000 delegates.

With an economic contribution expected to be in the vicinity of $85 million, MCB CEO, Karen Bolinger, said securing this event was the result of MCB’s highly effective ‘Team Melbourne’ approach.

What will they do next month?

Darwin showcases its unconventional assets

The NT Convention Bureau recently staged a four-day Unconventional Darwin Showcase which attracted 20 event planners from the association and corporate sectors, as well as business event planner. The showcase highlighted Darwin’s status as a business centre of global significance, with its specialty sectors of tropical and remote health, critical and emergency health care, mining, aquaculture and agribusiness.
