AIME set to kick-off next week
 
Anticipation is running high for the 25th anniversary of the AIME tradeshow which kicks off in Melbourne on Monday evening. Some lucky hosted buyers will be packing their bags this week and heading down early to see some of the latest attractions the city has to offer while others will be travelling on Monday to ready for the event.

Big NZ PCO opens shop in Sydney
 
New Zealand’s biggest and most internationally connected convention and event organiser, The Conference Company, will this month open its first dedicated off-shore office in the heart of Sydney’s CBD. Managing director and president of the International Association of Professional Congress Organisers (IAPCO) Jan Tonkin says the Castlereagh St office, headed by Asia Pacific manager Stephen Noble, was a significant investment for the company.
 
“We are presently experiencing a strong growth phase following the announcement of Auckland’s International Convention Centre, which has put New Zealand on the global conference map, and the investment in Australia represents a major push for new regional and international business,” Ms Tonkin said.

Sunshine Coast readies for mega development
 
Australia’s first Active Lifestyle project is coming closer to reality with the Sunshine Coast Council granting the company behind the project development approval (DA) for phase 1 of the $400 million venture.
 
Phase 1 will be built over 14 hectares and will consist of a state-of-the-art waterpark, a great lawn for major events, concerts and community activities, an outdoor adventure park with activities including kayaking, bungee jumping, net climbing, flyboarding, segways and electric skateboard hire, zorbing, stand-up paddle boarding and football, to name a few. Phase 1 also includes a 6000 square metre retail zone set to attract leading global brands and a superb choice of restaurants.

The first bookings have been secured at the New Zealand International Convention Centre, with Auckland winning the bids to host two large-scale international medical conferences in 2020.
 
The Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Ophthalmologists (RANZCO) in conjunction with the Asia-Pacific Academy of Ophthalmology (APAO) and the International Agency for the Prevention of Blindness (IAPB) will hold back-to-back conferences at the NZICC spanning five days. The 35th APAO Congress will be the biggest medical meeting to ever be held in New Zealand, with an estimated 4000 attendees.
 
This will be followed by the IAPB 11th General Assembly, where 2000 delegates will meet in Auckland to share information and exchange ideas.
 
The events will deliver significant economic benefit to the country including an estimated 15,000 room nights and some $11 million in economic benefit to the city.
