Spearheaded by the US-based Convention Industry Council and the Meetings Mean Business Coalition, the initiative was created to raise greater awareness of the value of meetings.

The Forward Calendar is the most comprehensive audit of future business events attached to Australia ever produced and comes after an unprecedented data sharing exercise between the nation's convention bureaux.

Canberra's $800M Manuka Oval
 
A proposal of an $800million re-development of Canberra’s Manuka Oval is being seen as a major boost to the ACT economy by Canberra hoteliers. It is a bid that would see upgrades to the current stadium including a moderate increase in capacity, improved media and corporate facilities, upgraded public facilities, improved food and beverage facilities and the creation of more public open space.
 
AHA national CEO Stephen Ferguson said, "Any development that kick-starts the economy to bring more people to Canberra is a win for hospitality and tourism, and the sector is excited to see the proposal become a reality."

Hilton to open a second hotel in New Caledonia
 
Following the opening of Hilton Noumea La Promenade Residence in 2013, a second Hilton hotel – the Hilton Lifou Wadra Bay Resort is to be built in New Caledonia.
 
The announcement comes after the signing of a franchise agreement with Société de Développement des îles Loyautés (SODIL).
 
The 50-room resort, due to open in 2019 on Lifou Island will be the first hotel of this standard on this largely undiscovered island with its features a combination of Melanesian culture, unique nature, and magnificent beaches. Lifou is accessible by air or by boat from Noumea.
