According to data from Conference Monitor, 269 professional association conferences were held in Australian hotels and conference venues during the September quarter, attracting more than 101,000 delegates. A period of time when associations tend to schedule their conferences, primarily on the east coast. The data also revealed that overseas destinations accounted for a dozen professional association conferences.

Legendary woman Alison Smith honoured
Opera singers and a surprise on-stage gala dinner during the CINZ Annual Conference was followed by CINZ chief executive Sue Sullivan presenting Millennium and Copthorne Hotels, director of sales, conferences and incentives, Australia and New Zealand Alison Smith with the 2015 CINZ Outstanding Contributor Award.
Held at the remarkably rebuilt and restored Isaac Theatre Royal, Christchurch, Sullivan said Sue had forged strong industry relationships for than 25 years both in New Zealand and offshore. “She is a legend within our industry - a long-term Platinum Board member of CINZ.”

Hotel Grand Chancellor positions itself with new HCEC website
The Hotel Grand Chancellor Hobart has launched its new HCEC website. The site includes all the resources you’ll need for a major business event on Hobart’s waterfront. The name of the site is causing some murmurs with the use of the Hobart Convention and Exhibition Centre. Director of sales and marketing Andrew Best said “We have the largest convention facilities in the state and the industry was telling us we should position ourselves as a convention centre, not simply a hotel with meeting space. We have convention centre sized facilities and now we have a website to match.”

Eventbrite reduces fees in Australia to offer savings for Australian customers
After 16 months in the Australian market, Eventbrite has reduced its payment processing fee from 3.5% to 2% for paid events. The platform will continue to allow users to list free events at no cost. “With successes like Rainbow Serpent, Beyond the Valley, and Taste of Australia, Eventbrite is seeing strong traction in Australia, and we’re excited to offer more savings to our Australian customers,” says Australian managing director Rachael Neumann.
